Monday, 14 August 2006 18:38
Jai Sri Krishna
On August 15th, world over, followers of Sanatan Dharma will observe one of the holiest occasion in our religious calendar, the observance of Sri Krishna Janamashtami. The day that marks the appearance of our Lord Sri Krishna.
Sri Krishna is 8th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who is the preserver of dharma (righteousness) and care taker of this entire world. The Lord appeared on earth with three major objectives. The first is declared in chapter 4 verse 7 and 8 of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Sri Krishna declares:
yada yada hi dharmasya
glanir bhavati bharata
abhyutthanam adharmasya
tadatmanam srijaamy aham
"Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice, O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise of irreligion—at that time I descend Myself."
paritranaya sadhunam
vinashaya ca duskritam
sambhavami yuge yuge
"To deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I Myself appear, millennium after millennium."
The Lord appeared to once again to establish justice, righteousness, ethics and morality. The second objective is His divine song, the Srimad Bhagavad Gita. The divine command from the divine creator on how to live life. Thirdly commenced from Sri Krishna, the great "Bhakti Movement." The world gets to know the meaning and beauty of devotion.
It's a day for self discipline, self reflection, and prayers, marked by joyous celebration and good will. Let us share the joy of our Lord Sri Krishna with the world. Let us study His great work, the Srimad Bhagavad Gita and let us partake of His divine beauty which will enhance and enrich our lives.
Sri Krishna is Bhagavaan (GOD). What makes Him GOD? Here are the six qualities of Bhagavaan:
1) Jñāna Omniscient; defined as the power to know about all beings simultaneously
2) Aishvarya Sovereignty, which persist in unchallenged rule over all
3) Shakti Energy, or power, which is the capacity to make the impossible possible
4) Bala Strength, which is the capacity to support everything by his will and without any fatigue
5) Virya Vigour, or valour
6) Tèjas Resplendent, or Splendour, which expresses his self-sufficiency and the capacity to overpower everything by his spiritual effulgence
The Hindu Society of Berbice, Sri Krishna Mandir wishes you, your family and love ones Happy Janamashtami 2006. May the Lord continue to inspire goodness and compassion in all. May we excel as decendants of Bharat, the land of Sri Krishna. May we live a life that is Krishna inspired, Krishna dedicated, Krishna obligated.
